The FAO/WHO allergenicity rules (Report of a Joint FAO/WHO Expert Consultation, January 2001) require that cross-reactivity be considered when a query protein shows: (a) more than 35% identity over any 80-residue window, or (b) identity of 6 or more contiguous amino acids with a known allergen.
